It was founded in 2004 (February 4, 2004) by Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, and takes its name from the face book directories that are commonly given to American university students. Initially, membership was restricted to Harvard students, but it has since expanded to include students from other North American universities and, since 2006, anyone over the age of 13. Facebook ranked seventh in global internet usage in 2020, with 2.8 billion monthly active users. It was the most popular mobile app in the decade of 2010.
